A little about me: I am the owner and principal agent of Insurance Associates NW, LLC a life, health, and disability agency. I am a Board Director and volunteer with the Portland Revels, a local theatre company. I am an obsessive reader, I love to laugh, dance, and sing (I used to sing opera professionally), and I love exploring new places, foods, and cultures. One thing on my ‘bucket list’ is to try stand-up comedy.
How did you get started with doTERRA?
I first learned about doTERRA essential oils from Meaghan. She and I met four years ago when she contacted my agency about help with health insurance. During that meeting and during subsequent meetings, Meaghan would tell me about the oils but I wasn’t ready to use them. Throughout 2015, I kept hearing several mothers at my daughter’s talking about the oils so my interest in the oils was finally piqued. At the beginning of 2016 I was ready to hear about the oils, about doTERRA, and about the business opportunity, so I asked Meaghan to tea and the rest is history! I enrolled a week later and started building the business from day one. I like to remind my downline (and myself) that it took me three years and several ‘touches’ from Meaghan before I was ready to use the oils. So don’t give up on anyone – you never know when the time will be right for them to use the oils. Consistency is key.
What is your background with natural medicine?
I have been using natural medicine for around six years, so I’m relatively new to the field. Admittedly, until I started with doTERRA, I thought essential oils were a gimmick because my only experience with them was on the shelf in health-food stores. I never understood the power behind them until I started using doTERRA’s Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils myself.
How has doTERRA improved your family’s well-being?
In just under one year, being an active part of the doTERRA family has made a huge positive impact in my life. Because of this business, I have increased my circle of friends with a group of women whom I enjoy and admire. My self-confidence has grown significantly. I’ve learned a lot about myself and have been able to work on areas that needed personal growth in a safe and supported atmosphere. I’ve increased my income and increased my ability to support my family’s emotional and physical health in a whole new way. I am constantly impressed with how doTERRA’s products have healed or addressed health issues we’ve had as a family this year. Some of the products have been nothing short of miraculous!
What are your GOALS with doTERRA?
Now that I’ve been ‘doing’ doTERRA for about a year, I can truly state that my goal is to go as far as I can go in doTERRA. Blue Diamond seems far away and yet obtainable. I started my doTERRA business with 3 very clear goals in mind:
1) Involve my tween-aged daughter in all aspects of the business so that she would learn entrepreneurial skills to serve her the rest of her life. My daughter is an active partner with me in the business, even earning ‘commission’ for her work. It’s my hope to continue to grow our partnership as she ages.
2) Provide a steady income and increase my net-worth doing something I enjoy and feel good about. I love the creativity, flexibility, community, and support (especially the support!) that the network marketing model brings. I knew I couldn’t really find that in any other business model. My goal is to eventually work myself out of my insurance business and work with doTERRA full time.
3) Do good in the world. I believe in the healing power of these oils and I feel good every time I share them because I know I’m making a positive difference in someone’s life. I also admire the integrity of doTERRA’s corporate leaders and their commitment to global equality. doTERRA is a beautiful company to work with.
What challenges to do you face as you grow your doTERRA business?
Time is a constant issue for me right now. I currently spend about 30 hours a week on insurance and several hours a week taking care of my mom who has some serious health issues. I’m also a mom, wife, and volunteer so I have to be laser-focused with my actions when it comes to my doTERRA business. The fact that I can grow my business despite the limited time I have to spend directly on doTERRA is proof that anyone has enough time to succeed in this business! I also struggle with the inviting piece. Even though I believe 100% in the oils and in the company, I still have a strange block about inviting people to classes. I have worked hard over the past year (with Meaghan’s help) to work through this block and I am happy to report I’m feeling much better about inviting. It’s still a challenge though.
What are your strengths as a Leader?
I am incredibly determined to reach my goals and to help others reach theirs with doTERRA. I am eternally optimistic - I always see a positive in any situation. I am extremely organized and am skilled at time management. I am a constant learner; If I don’t know something or feel like I could improve in some area I’ll read a book, watch a video, or ask someone until I come to a new understanding. I admit what I don’t know. I am drama-free and have a strong sense of self but admit to my weaknesses and work to improve them. I enjoy working and collaborating with others in a team setting.
