I know what you're thinking, because I've thought & said the SAME things...
"MLMs are shady and a scam". "I would never 'do' a MLM". "I tried (Mary Kay, Young Living, Amway, Stella & Dot, Scentsy, Pampered Chef, etc.) and it didn't work". "I don't want to sell anything". "My friends and family will laugh". "I might fail".
Yep. Heard it. Chances are, if you've thought, heard, or even said something negative about Multi-Level Marketing (aka Network Marketing) you're not alone! For whatever reason (shady practices, greed, ignorance, bad karma), MLMs have gotten a pretty bad rap. My opinion? I think the biggest reason MLMs have a negative image is because so many people fail after trying them. And the reason for that failure? Mostly likely because they were misled about what success in an MLM really entails. Top that with a poor training and you've got a recipe for disappointment. It's human nature to externalize failure and disappointment; "I didn't succeed in Mary Kay because too many other people were doing Mary Kay in my area." "I didn't succeed in Stella & Dot because I didn't have time." "I didn't succeed in Pampered Chef because my upline was terrible". You get the idea. But the truth, the hard truth, is that most people fail at MLM businesses because they believed at some level they were buying a glorified lottery ticket thinking that with just a little bit of work they would garner instant, huge abundance and success. My friends, this is just not so. "But wait", you say! "The MLM I tried promised me that I only had to put in a few hours each week, host a class or two, and I'd be rich. It wasn't supposed to be work or a job. I don't want a traditional job"! Yes... and...
There's a difference between a job/work and being professional. You can't pretend to do a MLM business just like you can't pretend to do a traditional business. Like all business, you have to come with a professional attitude, professional tools, and a professional work ethic. Cliched but true, a MLM business follows the age old rule: you get out of it what you put into it.
So if you can't get rich quick, then why even try an MLM?
So Many Positives!
There must be SOME reasons why MLMs attract so many people! So what are they? Here's just a few:
1. You are your own boss. You decide when, where, what, and why. You run the show and drive the ship which is a fantastic feeling! As captain of your own ship, you get to let your creative side run wild! While doTERRA has a very good training model, you still get to put your own creative stamp on your business and that part is really, really fun.
2. Flexible time. Your kid has a class play at 9am Wednesday? No problem; you're there and the beauty of a MLM is that you're earning $$ even when you're not working. How cool is that! Want to go on vacation to Florida? No problem. You can take time off AND get some expenses covered because you'll be hosting a class or two while you're there (ask me how). Time = Money. An MLM gives you the freedom to set your own schedule and earn while you're not technically 'working'.
3. Great earning potential. I'm never sure why so many MLMs feel this has to be only thing discussed when they show you their business model because money isn't everyone's only motivator. BUT! One of the things that sets doTERRA apart from so many other MLMs is that it has a kick-but compensation plan. Click HERE to learn more specifics, but just think on this: how would feel if you never, ever had to worry about money again? How much emotional and mental freedom would that give you? Could you be a better parent? A better spouse? You have a list of things you want to do for you, your family, your friends, and the world. With doTERRA, you can.
4. Doing something good. So let me get this straight, you can work when you want, earn enough money to do pretty much what you want, AND the product is good for people? Why haven't you signed up yet?! Seriously though, the doTERRA product line is amazing. The health benefits are incredible and the amount of healing: physically, emotionally, and financially you can bring to every individual you share with is almost beyond words. When you share the oils, you are doing good work. I've gotten to the point where I feel I almost HAVE to share them because I believe in how much they empower individuals to be in charge of their own health.
5. Leadership training. Do you feel like I do that our world desperately needs men and women who lead with kindness, are ethical, thoughtful, creative and proactive? We need these kind of leaders and when you join doTERRA, you build a team that you mentor and as you grow into a leader, you help others grow into leaders too. In no other traditional business that I can think of can you step into leadership so easily.
6. Personal growth. When you commit to being part of the doTERRA family, you won't believe the amount of transformational personal growth you'll experience. It's absolutely incredible. My mentor told me this when I first signed up, "doTERRA is a vehicle for transformation wrapped up in an essential oil company." It's way more than oils. I have done things I thought I couldn't do and it turns out I can and excel at doing them. I have done things I thought I didn't want to do and it turns out I actually like doing them. I have read more and learned more and loved more than I ever have in any of my other job/work/business lives. This is a powerful and wonderful journey.
What reasons will you find to change the way the world feels about MLMs?
Why My Team is Different
According to MLM 'experts', one of the biggest reasons people fail at this type of business is because of a lack of training. People aren't properly taught to do what they need or are taught a method that doesn't work with their personality. Obviously I can't guarantee you success and I encourage you to run far and fast from anyone who can. But I can guarantee that as part of my team, you'll get me as a mentor with lots of help when you need it most (the beginning) and less as you get the hang of the business model. Like all good mentors, I see it as my job to teach you how to not need me at all. In fact, one of the biggest goals in doTERRA (and in any good network marketing business model) is replication and duplication. It's my goal that my doTERRA business will one day essentially run itself (replication) and I can't make that happen if I haven't properly trained my team to do what works (duplication). And let me be clear, there will be times that you will be asked to step outside your comfort zone and do things that make you feel squirmy. I feel squirmy at least once a day - everyone does! What separates success from failure is the ability to acknowledge that squirmy feeling and do it anyway. And I will tell you from the bottom of my heart: when you feel squirmy, acknowledge the feeling, and do it anyway because you'll end up feeling like a rock star! It feels SO good to stretch and grow into all you are capable of being.
